The literal meaning of Hatha is sun & moon as “ha” in Sanskrit means sun while “tha” means moon. Yoga means to join together thus, Hatha Yoga means a union of the opposite pairs as sun and moon are opposites such as positive and negative are opposites.  The Hatha Yoga is also being translated as forceful Yoga because in all the types of Yoga, this is the most physical.  In the Western countries, they most commonly practice Hatha Yoga.

Hatha Yoga concentrates on practice of Asanas (posture) and Pranayama (breathe control) to energize the Nadis (channels).  Upon exercising Hatha Yoga, your objective is to remove the many kinds of obstacles that get in the way of your concentration (Dharana), balance (Samadhi, meditation (Dhyana) and sense withdrawal (Pratyahara).  In fact, Hatha Yoga is also known as the Yoga of “postures”.

Yoga meditation allows you to free your mind. With Hatha Yoga, you get to balance your mind with your body through poses and breathing techniques combined with meditation while doing each pose and with every inhaling and exhaling. Each poses in Hatha Yoga are designed to make you more relaxed over a longer period. By continually practicing Hatha Yoga, you will gain muscle strength as well as flexibility. Bone strength is also gradually gained through this practice.  Other benefit of this practice is the concentration development as well as the ability to withdraw from temptations. Self control and will power are greatly developed by the practice of Hatha Yoga.

The breathing in Hatha Yoga is also very important as it is long believed by the Yogis that it is the secret for mind control.  By controlling our breath we get to use up the energies inside us that remained dormant before one practices controlled breathing.

The human mind has more potentials than we know. Both physical and mental potentials are unleashed by Hatha Yoga and you will greatly benefit from the results.  Your body and mind would gain strength and control like never before. Flexibility as well as strength is gained more and more after each practice of the Hatha Yoga.

Mental relaxation is beneficial to all of us especially at work or in school.  No matter how stressful the situations are, we still remain relaxed and could think better than others who are also under the same stressful situation.  The spiritual energy is allowed to flow freely through this exercise. Depression and anxiety can also be treated by practicing Hatha Yoga.

Also, by practicing Hatha Yoga, you help create and promote balance in the body which leads to health.  The benefits of Hatha Yoga are enormous that more and more people practice it today.
